The OU Planter Project

- Posted in Projects by

Several years back I had a screened in porch that was in desperate need of repair. I tore it down and built a hardened sun room in the same space. As a result, I had a large amount of scrap wood that I decided to keep for future projects. That wood sat on my back deck for several years and I finally decided to do something with it.

I came up with a planter box plan from Matthew Peech's YouTube channel. On his web site he has a large collection of plans available for sale. Check it out. I could have copied the idea and made my own plans but the plan was only $6 and it would probably take me a few hours to make my own. Plus give the guy support, he puts out some really good content. The plan worked perfectly to utilize the wood that I had available plus I liked the way the planter looked.

My neighbor (Patti) from down the street took interest in what I was doing and wanted to get involved. Together we pumped out four planters out of the scrap wood over a weekend. We also purchased pickets to create a fifth one to give away. It was Patti's idea to stencil the OU logo on the sides which made a nice touch. Kitty Kitty helped maintain quality control over the project by inspecting every detail. Overall we had a good time making these and they turned out quite well.
